Installing Flow, a New Flavor Of Chromium OS on MAC and PC

Flow is the latest in the line of Hexxeh’s hugely popular Chromium OS builds. Flow is the most exciting version yet, bringing even more hardware support, an auto-updater, webcam support and an improved application menu & directory. All this, requires only a 2GB USB drive (download size is 327MB).I think every one remember the noise chromium OS created a few years back.chromium team has released there beta source code and many people have developed some OS on them but even then chromium kept the OS in beta only.This Flow is also a flavor of chromium OS developed by Hexxeh.

You can install this OS in windows,Linux and even in mac.The installation procedure is very simpler with only 4 steps required.
How To install Flow Using A USB drive on Windows
  1. Use Winrar or 7zip to extract the tar from the RAR.
  2. Use Windows Image Writer 0.2, select the archive image (IMG) and then select the USB drive in the menu.
  3. Press Write
  4. Restart the computer with USB.(click f12)(Or in some cases ‘ESC’.

How To install Flow Using A USB drive on Linux
  1. Extract Chrome-OS-Flow.img to any location.
  2. Install USB-ImageWriter using Synaptic Package Manager, or type sudo apt-get install usb-imagewriter in terminal.
  3. Run Applications –> Accessories –> ImageWriter. Or: gksudo imagewriter from the commandline (note the gksudo). If you use KDE then use: kdesu imagewriter.
  4. Make sure the USB-stick is not mounted, or make sure it can be unmounted. In other words: it must not be in use by any application.
  5. Choose location of images file and SD or USB drive location
  6. Write image and reboot (if Chrome-OS-Flow doesn’t boot, you may need to modify the boot order in your computer’s BIOS).

How To install Flow Using A USB drive on Mac
  1. Prepare USB drive
    • Plug in your USB
    • Find Disk Identifier; wherever you see X in this guide, replace it with your unique Disk Identifier
    • Open terminal and execute sudo diskutil unmountDisk diskX (remember to substitute X for the unique Disk Identifier – i.e. 1)
    • BE VERY CAREFUL to accurately copy the Disk Identifier. If you get it wrong, the dd command below will quickly and irrevocably overwrite one of your drives, possibly your main boot drive.
  2. Prepare ChromeOS Image
    • Download the build to your desktop
    • Execute cd Desktop
    • Execute tar -zxvf ChromeOS-Flow.tar.gz
    • You now have an uncompressed image on your desktop
  3. Write to USB
    • Execute sudo dd if=ChromeOS-Flow.img of=/dev/rdiskX bs=4m (remember to substitute X for the unique Disk Identifier – i.e. 1. If you saved your ChromeOS-Flow.img to any location other than the desktop, you will need to preface “ChromeOS-Flow.img” with the path to the directory – i.e. ”/folder/ChromeOS-Flow.img”.)
    • Type your Mac OSX user account password when prompted
    • Sit back and wait ~30-90 minutes (check progress)
    • You’ll know it’s done when it gives you your shell prompt back
  4. Once it’s finished you can remove your USB and boot from a normal PC or try to boot from your mac
