This is more of a shocking news then a breaking news.. It was just yesterday that Nokia N9: The first MeeGo powered device was announced and today reports state that Nokia N9 may or may not launch in India and USA! Reports also state that Nokia N9 might be the first and the last device powered by MeeGo and Nokia might not produce more than 100,000 devices. Yes all that and more.. Read On!
Nokia Announced Nokia N9 device yesterday at its Nokia Connection Event in Singapore and today it was observed that Nokia N9 would be launching in only 23 Countries which do not include India and USA, though the NEWS is still unconfirmed. But, Nokia’s European website does not features USA and India in the list of countries in which subscribed users will be informed when Nokia N9 launches. This is clearly visible in following screenshot:
So far the list is limited to:
Eldar Murtazin, an (in)famous Russian blogger who is credible to release internal NEWS of Nokia in past has written in his blog that, Nokia might only manufacture 92,000 units of N9. He also claims that Nokia is not launching N9 to make money from it or popularize MeeGo platform, instead, the Finnish Company just wants to stay in NEWS and attract the attention of people towards its new series of Microsoft WP7 based Nokia phones! All this is a clear indication to Nokia N9 being the first and the last MeeGo powered smartphone from Nokia and It might not launch in all countries.
Though for the sake of Developers atleast, MeeGo might be adapted as the platform in other devices including Netbooks, Tablet PCs or Pads!
There still lies some hope that, the list might get updated with time to include more countries and the current list might be just a collection of countries which falls under Nokia’s first roll out. Because of a New OS, people might consider trying it and might give a chance to Nokia to come back strongly in Smartphone Market.
But obviously considering the cost of launching N9 or any other mobile for that matter, in a country is huge which includes Advertising, Promotions, Getting support center staff trained for repairs and accessories etc.. the list goes on! When Nokia is dealing with such a back-fall might not want to risk its economy system. N9 is expected in the 3rd Quarter this year and in a price range of $600-$750(27000 to 34000 INR) for 16GB and 64GB variants.
Overall it’s not the company that will lose, but the user who will loose if it doesn’t get launched in all countries. Company will still make money, but a user might have to pay extra to import it from other countries and due to shortage of devices as mentioned (less than 100,000 devices) grey market might come in-effect. What do you think of Nokia’s new strategy? Is it enough for Nokia to attract more consumers towards it upcoming Windows-based phones? Share your thoughts with us through our comment system!
