Microsoft corporate vice president Dan’l Lewin has revealed that the much expected Windows 8 release date will be on early next autumn. Dan’l Lewin handles strategic and emerging business development of Microsoft. This hint suggested by him on the start-up LAUNCH event at the Microsoft Silicon Valley campus.
Dan’l Lewin also suggested that Microsoft’s tablet OS will be Windows, rather than Windows Phone. He told that Microsoft’s strategy is a statement about phones and tablets being more or less the same thing. He explained tablets as big phones and they will add some of the capabilities that PC architectures have, over time. He added more “security” word in his speech about tablets.
Microsoft already announced that the next-gen tablets and efficient notebooks will be having Windows-based OS on ARM-based SoC silicon as well as that of Intel and AMD. The ARM ecosystem is very strong and it has unique strengths of universal standards and partners like Qualcomm, Samsung, Texas Instruments, Nvidia and Microsoft has also on board. Apple is not kept them away from this new SoC silicon technology- they also invested in this platform.
One important factor you should know here is, Microsoft started the Tablet interface research and development before Apple OS and Android started to develop. But, as already said, Windows Vista is the real culprit here. But, now it seems Microsoft is acting faster than before as their Windows 7 OS became popular and it deserves the popularity in my point of view.
Lewin suggested in his speak in the event:
“We (Windows 8.) will be in market – if you look at the crystal ball and just say what happened in the past is a reasonable indicator of what our forward looking timelines will be and just speculate – we’ve made the point about having a developer conference later this year, and then typically we enter a beta phase, and then in 12 months we’re in the market, so let’s make that assumption.”He acknowledged that Microsoft Windows Vista had slowed the Windows division to enter into the tablet market. Here the notable point is, every other tablet OS are already entered and releasing their updates also. But, Microsoft is far behind them. I personally expect, Microsoft will be including all features of Android and other OS into Windows 8. If Microsoft fails to integrate all new features on the Windows 8, then its hard to survive in the Tablet market. However, Lewin said that Microsoft Windows is used by the largest number of people.
