You heard that right! Nokia has finally unveiled its controversial Operating System with the new 1 GHz powered Nokia N9 smartphone. Here, I present you with the most in-depth coverage of Nokia N9 and MeeGo.
MeeGo is a cross bread Mobile Operating System which was produced by mating Nokia’s Maemo and Intel’s Moblin software platforms to form a fully linux-based and open source Operating System. Nokia has always wanted to shift its devices to a Linux-based OS but never supported Android for that cause, and so they (Nokia and Intel) merged there projects to create a whole new and better OS. Though MeeGo as a project was introduced last year by Nokia and Intel – it never attracted a large audience. Nokia planned to release its first MeeGo powered device in early 2011, but this plan took the back seat due to some reasons and drifted away people’s interest. Then Nokia announced its tie ups with Microsoft to launch Windows Phone 7 powered mobiles, which totally left behind MeeGo in dark!
But suddenly today in Singapore at Nokia Connection Event, it unveiled it’s very first MeeGo powered device which it named N9!
With this Nokia has finally decided to step-in the competition of growing smartphone market, though tentative launch dates and pricing are yet not public, Nokia N9 will release in 2011. Let’s take a look at Nokia N9:

Nokia N9 will be available in 2 variants, 16GB and 64GB, featuring an awesome 8MP wide-angle autofocus camera with Carl Zeiss optics and dual-LED flash, that will be able to record 720p videos @30fps. Nokia N9 like iPhone 4 will support Micro Sim cards and internal modem will support HSDPA 14.4Mbps/HSUPA 5.7Mbps, Bluetooth v2.1, GPS (with A-GPS), Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, TV out, USB-on-the-Go, as well as NFC.
MeeGo 1.2 named Harmattan is capable of supporting QT and even HTML 5 application.. (you may be able to play angry birds chrome game on your MeeGo device). It also supports OpenGL and has a WebKit2 based browser. Following is the video showcased at the press release:
