Motorola has announced the successors to their highly successful Xoom tablet. The two latest editions of this tablet include Motorola Xoom 2 and Xoom 2 Media Edition.
While Xoom 2 does not have any major updates from the original tablet to boot, the only differences are a slightly better processor, 3D virtual surround sound and a leaner frame.
Both Xoom 2 and Xoom 2 Media Edition are powered by a 1.2GHz dual core processor with 1GB RAM and run on Android 3.2 Honeycomb operating system. They feature the same cameras as well – a 5 megapixel rear-facing HD camera with digital zoom, autofocus & LED flash and a 1.3 megapixel front camera for video calling.
As regards the storage capacity, both these tablets come with 16GB internal storage. The main difference is that of display size; while Xoom 2 boasts a 10.1-inch HD display with Corning Gorilla Glass, the media edition sports a relatively smaller 8.2-inch HD display with the same screen quality.
Also, there is a significant difference in the sizes and weights of the tablets, with Xoom 2 weighing 586 grams and the Media Edition being much lighter at just 386 grams.
Both the Motorola Xoom 2 and the Xoom 2 Media Edition will be available from mid-November in UK and Ireland via Carphone Warehouse. The release dates for other countries are not known yet.
