Trai Raises SMS Limit to 200 SMS Per Day Per SIM

It seems that TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) has finally paid heed to the wishes of customers. The earlier imposed limit of 100 SMS per day per SIM has now been raised to 200 SMS per day per SIM. TRAI has also doubled the SMS limit for Postpaid subscribers from 3000 SMS per month to 6000 SMS per month per SIM.
Referring to the raising of the SMS limit, TRAI said in a press release:
“The Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations provide a restriction that no Access Provider shall permit sending of more than one hundred SMS per day per SIM except telemarketer or transactional message sending entity. The Authority has received representations from some of the service providers and consumers to increase the limit of 100 SMS per day per SIM. The Authority has considered these representations and decided to increase the limit of one hundred SMS per day per SIM to two hundred SMS per day per SIM”.
The new rules have been made effective from 1st November 2011 and any person who wants to get more information about the directions may visit their website http://www.trai.gov.in.
