After upgrading to Windows XP SP2, I constantly used to get a pop-up message informing me that my computer might be at risk since an Antivirus software is not installed.
If you are getting the same annoying message but do not want to install an antivirus software on your computer, here is a short and easy-to-follow tutorial to turn the message off once and for all:
1. Open the Start Menu and head over to the Control Panel.
2. Look up “Security Center” and click on it.
3. You will notice that right beside the ‘Virus Protection‘ heading, NOT FOUND will be written. Click on the double arrow pointing down next to it.
4. Click on the Recommendations tab on the lower-right side.
5. A new recommendation window will show up. Check the “I have an antivirus program that I’ll monitor myself” option right at the bottom of the window.
6. Click OK to apply and save the setting.
Now you can enjoy working on your computer without getting distracted by the message.
